The short story, " Where Are You Going, Wherever Have You Been”, by Joyce Oates, (1966), and the composition, " What it's Love to Be a Black Girl”, simply by Patricia Cruz, (1991), are about the approaching of age of young girls as well as the conflicts that they can encounter. The 2 pieces check out issues that most young girls have got with their bodies and others throughout their puberty years. The fictional elements which will be compared in this essay can be imagery and symbolism. The key conflict in both bits that will be explored is person versus self. These literary elements and conflict may help us to explore the issues that those two individual young ladies dealt with regarding their beauty and the lack of their chasteness. There are many types of issues all around us. The conflict of individual vs self can be an internal turmoil that takes place in the head, Docimo, (2015). It is the thing or problems that keeps a character in uncertainty in a story. In the brief story, " Where Will you be Going, Wherever Have You Been”, the main personality Connie is in direct issue with himself. In the beginning of the account it is obvious that she is very conscious of her looks and knows that she is a pretty young lady. It is clear in the statement of her mom, scolding her for often looking into showcases. Her mom tells her to " Stop gawking at your self. Who are you? You think if you're so very? ” Oates, (1966). Connie goes through a whole lot to make sure that the girl looks great and that she actually is noticed by opposite love-making. In her mind she has to often look good. At the beginning of the poem, it claims that the lady is 9. This is the start of growing up for many girls. Although there are numerous different fictional techniques found in these two parts imagery can be an element that is depicted in the both of them. Images is a literary technique that appeals to the senses of its readers. It gives someone a visual of what the copy writer is perception of what she or he is writing. In the poem, " What really Like to Certainly be a Black Girl”, by Smith, (1991), images is used to show the freelance writers feelings of being black and not essential proud of getting black, " it's falling food colour in your eyes to make them blue and suffering their burn in silence”. The writer could be using the term blue so as to depict the wanting to have got beautiful blue eyes just like many Light women as opposed to the dark brown or perhaps black eye that the lady probably owned.
